We are heartbroken to report that Andy Palacio passed away tonight at 9pm Belize time. The cause of death was a massive and extensive stroke to the brain, a heart attack and respiratory failure due to the previous two conditions. After having been waylaid in Mobile, Alabama while en route to emergency care in Chicago, Andy had been brought back to a hospital in Belize last night so that he could die in his homeland.

I just discovered Andy dec. of 2007 looking for new types of music and really enjoyed "Watina"and purchased the album. I had found out about his passing from npr's all songs considered and was in disbalief. Just the day before i heard the podcast( which I was behind on) I was bragging about my vast collection and mentioned Andy. He will be missed. I also did not realize his accomplishments untill today.

The last time I saw Andy Palacio perform was at the Y-not Island on November 17th, 2007. I arrived at the concert late but managed to squeeze my way through the crowd so I can get to the front. As usual, I wanted to be up close so I could absorb all of what Andy and the Garifuna Collective was dishing out! And boy, did I have a hell of a time! It was the best concert I had ever attended and the memory of that night will live on with me for the rest of my days. However, little did I know that would have been the last time I would see Andy Palacio perform live. But like I said, 2007 was Andy's time and God's plan for him. This too (his death) is his time and God's plan for him. May he Rest in Peace!
