Memories of Shakilus Townsend

My Memory shaki

theresa (Sep 11, 2008)

shame on u people that think u can pass judgement on some one u dont even know,of course u r all perfect and u r going straight 2 heaven . let me start by saying that i have 5 children 36, 34, 30,24, and 18 , the 18 year old was one of shaki good friends , HE WAS NOT IN A GANG ! there was five young boys that knew each other for at least seven years and my son was the baby of the group. I started by telling u that i have five children and eldest 36 when he was 16 things were so different , all this children killing each other just did not happen , fights yes ! but not like it is today iam frightened for the children of today not just for my children and my 12 grandchildren but all the children of today ,what ever there race is . shaki was a dear boy he had a lot of good qualitys and manners like no other child i had met and i have met a few over the years , his mother did her very best without a farther figure ;for the year i have known her, like i said none of us r perfect . U might think i am just sticking up for him because i had love in my heart for this child ,but i knew most of his downfalls ,and i did not condone some of what he did, BUT DID HE KILL ANYBODY ! NO ! he was a young man ready to grow up and change his life ,which some of us never get round to doing . So when u r judging this child and his mother, look at yourself before u start throughing that first stone ,and jesus forgave all sinners from the from were he dieded . Love to all the people that loved our dear little soilder shaki x xxxx theresa

For Shaky's family

Michelle (Sep 02, 2008)

Ive just been on Sky News and all I see is a photograph of a handsome young man who had his whole life ahead of him. The story is heartbreaking. This young man did not deserve to die and my heart goes out to his mum and dad and his family and friends. Their hearts must be breaking. I am so sorry!

Positive Comments.

I thought this was a site in rememerance of Shaki. A lot of the comments left here are from people who have never met Shaki and know nothing about him. If you wish to post a positive message please do so at www.shaki.co.uk. Thank you for taking the time to do so.

should i not cry?

Miss A (Jul 20, 2008)

i'm shakilus' Aunt and i find it deeply disrespectful, insensitive and innapropriate for people to seek out a memorial site to post comments which suggest to me that some people think shakilus deserved to me brutally murdered because he has a picture posing with knifes and may not have been the best of characters .

Shaki's murderers only killed shaki he's not sufferring we are no body wins their parents now have kids that are gong to jail and we have one that is dead its a loss everyway.....so sad

some of the messages are so appalling, no shaki wasnt perfect but should i not cry? should i not feel for the loss of my first nephew because he wasnt the best role model? you might not care but we (his family and true friends) are devastated .R.I.P

In his defence

Wiseman (Jul 18, 2008)

When it comes to photos of people in newspapers, you can't always believe what you see. For instance the photo that suggest that Shakilus is holding a gun, in my opinion, it's not him. It's a blurred picture and it's cropped meaning the newspapers have something to hide. Also the head shape does not resemble any of the other photos that have been shown. In regards to the photo where it suggest he's holding a knife, I find this photo odd too. The reason is because just like the other photo that I mentioned, this one has also been cropped, again suggesting that the newspapers and other medias are twisting the story to suit their report. Why don't they show a fuller picture so we can see what's really happening. I'm quite suspicious about the hand holding the knife, it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the picture. To me it looks like Shakilus has both his hands in his coat pocket. If it turns out that the original picture shows him holding a knife... a 4inch knife, then how would this suggest that he is in a gang. I'm sure if gang members want to send a feeling of fear through the country, they would be brandishing a much bigger knife with there face partly covered in order not to give themselves away. I doubt that Shakilus was in a gang. Why would he go to an area far from home by himself and without protection just to meet a girl. Gang member on the T.V have always said that they don't leave their house without a weapon or friends, I believe them. During the week of his attack, the police said he wasn't dressed in a hoody, which nowadays police would regard as suspicious, or carried any weapons. So apart from his bus pass or passport picture, the other two pictures mentioned are very dodgy in deed. Why haven't they tried to find positive pictures of him. The fact of the matter is this, an innocent 16 year old boy was lured out by an ex-girlfriend that he dumped, and stabbed to death with 12 to 18inch knives and there was no reason for anyone to carry out such an act. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims parents. R.I.P and god bless your soul Shakilus Townsend

This is everyone’s loss; I am concerned

People, it is time to take a stance against this new wave knife or gun crime. Without question, as a lad I thought it was fashionable to have one but the whole of our society must be held to account. We can no longer blame Gordon Brown for his inadequacies nor look to simply incarcerate our youngsters for our failings. We must first acknowledging our mistakes as a society that has encompassed the new age of not caring for the youth within this Great Country of ours.
The consequences of our inaction:
We as parents reward our children for doing wrong; we intervene when responsible adults try to correct them; we interfere with the educational system that nurtures our youth and spurn those teachers that dare to correct our ‘pride and joy’ at school. We’ve adopted and display road rage in front of them; Of course this be emulated by the youths!
On our buses or Tubes, our elderly are ignored, allowed to stand while the young sit and pick their teenage spots! Wow no sign of respect. British queues, the envy of the world eroded by the lack of consideration by others. Wow no respect. People live in fear helpless-if they say something it’s blown out of all proportion. Parents please remember you are indeed the custodians of their future!
Parent/Guardians/relatives and friends please refrain from buying inappropriate media such as violent DVD's, music by wannabe "gangstas" both here & in the US for underage kids.
Why do we tolerate graffiti in public areas, as ‘art’. Perpetrators of these crimes are allowed to go unchecked indeed we now seem to embrace the very things while our children look on and presume its their right to damage public property.
Remedial action:
• Boot camp for young tearaways without proper guidance or role models
• Community service after all there are lots of railings to paint, and inaccessible paths to repair
• Hospitals are short of porters to convey patients from A to B
• Corporal punishment must be reintroduced, obviously controlled, at all schools
• Embarrassing children through assembly to acknowledge their wrong doing and where applicable apologise.

Tired

Carl Kolowski (Jul 14, 2008)

The developing of these threads reflect fairly well what's happening out there.

People blaming each other, with varied opinions but little or no immediate solution..it's a shame because in theory it could be so easy to get along - not that it will ever happen anytime soon, sadly.

Simone, nobody on here's judging the lad - it's more an overall judgement of how things have developed out there: I don't care anymore with regards to who's to blame, you are entitled to a night out as much as anyone else and we are all guilty one way or another for refusing to understand where others come from, why we do the things we do and why hurting someone seems to be the only, animalistic way to compete - for what God only knows.

In short, we can argue until the cows come home but this lad's not gonna be brought back..I'm tired now, I know I picked the wrong site to try and understand this mess and there's no point in taking it any further so I'm leaving it once and for all, if anything for this lad's parents if they are reading all this pointless scrapping.

Hopefully one day we'll learn to live with each other. Hopefully.

Not missed

David Peters (Jul 14, 2008)

Any pity I and every decent person in the country had for Shakilus Townsend went out of the window when the pictures of him posing with knives came out. Simple as that.
