A single mom died after having her stomach stapled in a bid to lose weight, an inquest heard yesterday.

Suzanne Murphy, 29, desperately wanted to get slimmer for the sake of her five-year-old son Jacob.

But she had a massive adverse reaction to the gastric surgery and died of multiple organ failure four days later.

She contracted MRSA but factors such as her body's reaction to surgery and her obesity may have contributed to her death, the hearing in Huddersfield, West Yorks was told.

Suzanne, of Lightcliffe, Halifax, weighed more than 19st. She left a note under her son's pillow before the op which read: "To my beautiful baby boy. All you have to know is Mummy is doing this for you and me."

Her sister, Linda, said: "She had put on a lot of weight over the years and felt it was stopping her doing the things she wanted to with Jacob."
