Facts

Known as the “Duke”, he was born Marion Robert Morrison.  He is an iconic American actor, and a major star best known for his roles in westerns and World War II epics,  although he began acting in the 1920’s abd gad iver 200 films to his credit.  He won Academy Awards, was awarded the Congressinoal Medal of Honour, and was named as one of the Greatest Male Stars of All Time by the American Film Institute.

He always portrayed a rugged ‘man’s man’, and embodied ‘American Values’.  He went on to develop a ‘bigger than life’ persona, and in order to maintain his off screen image he limited the kinds of acting roles he would accept.
