Once, Paul and I drove all the way out to west Ottawa to this one video store that was open all night to pick up a movie. It was the usually stuff when it came time to rent it. “Which Paul Maloney?” the lady asked behind the counter. Of course, there were a few accounts: Paul Maloney at Leaside, Paul Maloney at Alta Vista, John Paul Maloney, PJ Maloney, etc, etc. They all had late charges. Anyway, we paid some late fees and took our movie and left the store. On the way home, Paul was driving very fast. He often did this to annoy me. I would say “Paul, please slow down, you are making me nervous.” For which he only went faster!! The roads were completely empty, because it was quite late at night. As Paul was driving at this fast speed, he sees a light changing orange in the distance and decides to make a run for it. As he approaches the intersection, Paul notices a police car stopped at the intersection waiting for the light to change. Immediately, Paul reverses his decision to run through the orange light (almost red now) and hits the brakes HARD. Right in front of the police car, Paul’s car goes skidding loudly through the entire intersection!! Paul pulls over and waits for the police. The police car slowly puts on its flickers, makes the turn, and pulls up behind Paul’s car. The police guy must have thought it was the funniest thing as well, because all he did was make a joke about Star Trek and the speed control, or something. Paul got the joke. I didn’t. But it was classic Paul!!
Classic Paul!
